Speech Adds to Unprecedented Momentum for Action, Now Lawmakers Must Deliver on Repeated Promises to Hold Big Pharma Accountable

Washington, D.C. – The Campaign for Sustainable Rx Pricing (CSRxP) released a statement Thursday reacting to a landmark speech from President Biden calling on Congress to pass solutions to lower prescription drug prices and hold brand name drug manufacturers accountable.

“CSRxP applauds President Biden for his commitment to lowering prescription drug prices and for rightly highlighting that this is an urgent concern for millions of Americans,” said CSRxP executive director Lauren Aronson. “Big Pharma’s egregious pricing practices have created a crisis of affordability and policymakers must deliver on repeated promises to hold the industry accountable and lower drug prices.”

“The President’s speech adds to the unprecedented momentum for action and specifically highlighted several policies long-supported by CSRxP, including keeping price hikes below the rate of inflation and capping out-of-pocket costs for seniors,” Aronson continued. “CSRxP looks forward to continuing to work with the administration and Congress to ensure these, and additional solutions like making Big Pharma pay their fair share in the catastrophic phase of coverage, are passed into law.”

In May, the President called on Congress to lower prescription drug prices as part of his administration’s Fiscal Year 2022 Budget. During a Joint Address to Congress in April, the President also called for lawmakers to work in which he also called for bipartisan solutions to lower prescription drug prices.
