CSRXP: TIME FOR POLICYMAKERS TO DELIVER ON AMERICANS’ CALL TO LOWER OUT-OF-CONTROL DRUG PRICES

Holding Big Pharma Accountable Remains Top Priority for American Voters

Washington, D.C. – The Campaign for Sustainable Rx Pricing (CSRxP) released a statement Wednesday ahead of President Biden’s introduction of the “American Families Plan” in an address to Congress.

“We thank the President for correctly recognizing the importance of solutions to lower out-of-control drug prices and hold Big Pharma accountable,” said CSRxP executive director Lauren Aronson. “We look forward to working with the administration and Congress to ensure solutions to lower drug prices are addressed in the American Families Plan.”

“The crisis of prescription drug affordability remains a top concern for American voters and Big Pharma shows no sign of slowing its egregious pricing and anti-competitive practices,” Aronson continued. “The American people are counting on policymakers to deliver relief by advancing solutions to promote drug pricing transparency, foster generic and biosimilar competition and reform Medicare Part D to deliver out-of-pocket relief for seniors, give drug companies significant skin in the game in the catastrophic phase of coverage and keep price hikes below the rate of inflation.”

A poll commissioned by CSRxP and conducted by Morning Consult earlier this year found that Americans overwhelmingly expect Congress and the new administration to move urgently to follow-through on campaign promises to lower drug prices and hold drug companies accountable:

• 87 Percent: An 87 percent majority of American voters say it is important policymakers deliver on 2020 campaign promises to lower prescription drug prices and hold Big Pharma accountable.
• >50 Percent: More than half, 54 percent, of voters say they would be less likely to support their representative in Congress in the next election if Congress fails to pass into law any major legislation this year to lower the price of prescription drugs. This includes key voting demographics like independent women and independent men, who say they would be 44 and 53 percent less likely to support their representative in the next election if drug pricing solutions fail to advance.
• 85 Percent: 85 percent of voters agree President Biden should make lowering drug prices a top priority.
